MIRU

FAQ

Questions, answered honestly.

What MIRU can do, what it can't, and what happens to your data.

How does MIRU match my shade?

MIRU analyses the complexion characteristics visible in your scan — overall depth and undertone — and compares them against the shades in its catalogue. Each recommendation shows a match indicator and a short reason. It is guidance based on what the camera could see, not a laboratory measurement.

Why does lighting matter so much?

A camera reports the light it is given. Even, indirect daylight gives the most consistent readings. Backlighting, coloured bulbs, deep shade and direct sun all shift how skin appears. MIRU checks your lighting before analysing and will ask you to retake rather than guess when conditions are too poor.

Should I take off my makeup first?

Yes. Foundation, powder, tinted SPF and bronzer all change the colour the camera sees, so a scan on bare, clean skin is far more useful. Remove glasses too, and pull hair away from your face.

Do I need an account?

No. You can scan, get matches and build a routine as a guest — your profile is stored in your browser. Creating an account with Google or Apple simply lets you keep your profile, routine and wishlist across devices.

What happens to my photo?

Scan frames are sent to our servers, analysed, and used to produce your result. We do not routinely retain raw scan images after analysis, and photo retention for quality review is disabled by default. Measurement values and technical diagnostics from the scan are stored so we can improve accuracy. Full detail is in the Privacy Policy.

Does MIRU sell the products?

No. MIRU matches and shade-checks, then links you to a retailer. You buy from that retailer under their terms, and price, availability and delivery are theirs.

How does MIRU make money?

Through affiliate commissions. Some outbound links are affiliate links, including Amazon — as an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. It costs you nothing extra, and it does not change which products we show you.

Can I delete my data?

Yes. Guests can clear their profile from the profile page, which removes it from the browser. Signed-in users can delete their account and associated data from the profile page, or send us a request through the contact form and we will do it for you.

Which products are in the catalogue?

MIRU currently covers complexion-led categories — foundation, concealer and supporting routine steps — from widely available brands, and links out to verified retailer listings. The catalogue is expanding.

Is MIRU medical or dermatological advice?

No. MIRU is a shopping assistant. It does not diagnose or treat skin conditions. Speak to a qualified professional about any skin concern, and always patch test new products.
